Our Mission

MAREBOX aims to develop cultural, artistic, innovative and audience-centered experiences with the integration of cutting-edge technologies for content creation, on the topic of underwater culture. MAREBOX enables through digital content, artistic view and exhibitions: the protection and promotion of European Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH), which is not easily accessible to the wider public and the raising of awareness on the current challenges of the Sea (from marine pollution, to migration routes, ghost gear, etc). MAREBOX also facilitates the rise of Cultural Tourism, driving sustainable growth and job creation.

The main outputs of MAREBOX are:

  • A pan-European residency programme for MAREBOX exhibits creation under the theme Culture Underwater;
  • The MAREBOX exhibition hosted in Greece, Italy and Germany;
  • Digital Apps to support MAREBOX activities

 

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • to provide broad and responsible public access to Underwater Cultural and Natural Heritage, aiming at raising public awareness, maintaining high standards of protection and drive sustainable growth in the area;
  • to increase appreciation of Europe’s maritime assets hosted in a changing environment with multiple pressures (migration, pollution etc.);
  • to connect the past with the present and future, strengthening European identity;
  • to enhance cross-sectoral collaboration and form a creative ecosystem of diverse actors (artists, scientists, engineers, archaeologists, business representatives and others).

 

The project contributes to the growth of the following business markets:

  • Culture and Creative Industries
  • Cultural Tourism
  • Exhibition Spaces (operation of museums, art galleries etc.)
